Cons

  • Higher-than-average rates
  • No mobile app
  • Limited customer and claims service availability

Bottom Line

Good2Go may be the best option for drivers who struggle to get a policy elsewhere and who need proof of insurance coverage. But with nearly five times the number of complaints compared to similarly sized companies, Good2Go may have trouble serving its customers.

Originally founded in 1992 under the name American Independent Companies Inc. (AICI), Good2Go is a non-standard car insurance company. That means it specializes in providing cheap car insurance coverage to high-risk drivers with at-fault accidents, insurance lapses, and traffic violations — and rarely turns people away.

The company sells policies underwritten by third parties (i.e., it’s also an insurance agency), which can lead to confusion and frustration, even during the quoting process. So, if you purchase through the company, be sure you understand which company you’re buying the policy from and which company is servicing it.

Let’s take a deep dive into everything Good2Go has to offer.

Good2Go probably won’t turn you away, even if you have multiple violations on your driving record. It specializes in minimum-coverage policies and may offer you steep discounts.

Where Good2Go falls short

Good2Go doesn’t have a mobile app, and its customer service team is only available Monday through Saturday during normal business hours. You also can’t bundle your auto policy with other insurance products such as home insurance.

Good2Go Reviews: What Real Customers Are Saying

Customers have mixed experiences with Good2Go. The company earns high scores on Trustpilot, middling scores on Clearsurance, and low scores on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) site.

Positive reviews usually mention a good price and excellent customer service. For example, the two customers below gave the company five-star reviews after receiving great service — both even mentioned their customer service representatives by name.

Good2Go 5-star reviews

While the screenshots above are from new customers, I also found several five-star reviews from customers who have been with the company for years.

But many negative reviews (and a few positive ones) mention that it’s difficult to get in touch with anyone. The customer in the below review contacted the company to resolve their policy issue but says the company failed to return their phone calls for weeks. This led to their state suspending their registration due to the company’s error. Good2Go’s response explains the error but not the lack of communication.

The review below, from an insurance agent (a non-policyholder) who consistently waits on hold for long periods when contacting customer service, is especially telling.

How Much Is Good2Go Car Insurance?

Every auto insurer uses a unique formula to calculate your premium. Companies look at a variety of factors — including your age, gender, relationship status, location, driving history, and credit — that indicate your risk of making an insurance claim. The higher your risk, the higher your premium.

Here are Good2Go’s average rates based on common driver profiles and how each compares to the national average, according to Compare.com data.

Driver/ Coverage Characteristics Good2Go Average Monthly Rate National Average Monthly Rate % Difference to National Average
All drivers $165 $132 +25%
Liability coverage $125 $107 +17%
Full coverage $247 $193 +28%
Teens $279 $248 +13%
Seniors $141 $114 +24%
Recent speeding ticket $176 $150 +17%
Recent at-fault accident $198 $171 +16%

We found that Good2Go’s rates are higher than the national average for all driver profiles. That said, the company’s rates are especially high for full-coverage policies and senior drivers (seniors are usually the least expensive age group to insure).

Good2Go is likely to offer the best deal for drivers who need liability coverage, teens, and people with a recent ticket or an at-fault accident.

Good2Go vs. the Competition

Average rates don’t mean much if you don’t have something to compare them to. That’s why it’s important to consider how Good2Go stacks up to its closest competitors. We’ve compared Good2Go with other non-standard car insurance companies that specialize in high-risk drivers. Each company competes with the insurer in at least one state.

The table below compares Good2Go’s Compare.com Rating and average monthly rate to four of its primary competitors.

Company Compare.com Rating Average Monthly Rate
Good2Go 2.80/5 $165
Clearcover 3.37/5 $153
Kemper 2.80/5 $143
The General 3.35/5 $215
TSC Direct 2.67/5 $168

While not the most expensive non-standard insurer, Good2Go isn’t the cheapest either. But it’s not all about cost — you likely want a great customer experience in addition to good rates. Here, Good2Go also lags behind some competitors, especially Clearcover and The General.

These two companies also provide mobile apps with tons of features (including claims handling) — something Good2Go doesn’t offer.

Good2Go Car Insurance Discounts

Car insurance discounts are an excellent way to lower your premiums. Good2Go offers discounts, but it isn’t clear which ones are available. Instead, the website shows a list of 12 discounts “common” to the industry. These include:

  • Good driver: You can save 10%–35% if you have a good driving record.
  • Student driver/good student: You can save 5%–20% for maintaining good grades as a high school or college student under 26.
  • Homeownership: Save 5%–20% for owning a home.
  • Multi-vehicle: You can save 10%–25% for insuring more than one vehicle.
  • Paid in full: Save 5%–10% for paying for the entire policy term up front.
  • Renewal: You can save 3%–5% by renewing your policy.
  • Defensive driving course: You can save 5%–15% by completing an approved driving course.
  • Airbag and passive restraint: You can save up to 5% for vehicle safety devices.
  • Anti-theft system and VIN etching: You can save up to 5% for anti-theft devices.
  • Prior insurance: You can save up to 40% for having continuous coverage.
  • Non-owner: You can save up to 25% for insuring yourself for a car you don’t own.
  • Driver’s education: South Carolina drivers can save up to 10% by completing a driver’s education course.

It’s not clear if the company offers all these discounts or offers auto insurance policies from companies that provide them. You’ll need to get a quote to discover which is available to you.

Good2Go Auto Insurance Coverages

Good2Go is known for its bare-bones policies, so you won’t find rare or unique coverage options with the company. Here’s what its website says Good2Go offers:

As stated earlier, the website doesn’t offer much information. So it’s possible the company provides additional coverage — we’d expect at least personal injury protection (PIP) and medical payments (MedPay) to meet minimum state requirements. But we couldn’t confirm this with the information currently on the site.

You can get a quote online in a few minutes by going to the homepage and entering your ZIP code — which is exactly what I did.

Then, I answered questions about my vehicle, such as vehicle year, make, whether I own or lease it, and more.

When I entered my email, an automatically checked box suggested that “some of the best rates are only available by email.” I suspect this is a ploy to get my email address for marketing purposes.

Good2Go step 26 of getting a quote

Finally, I discovered I couldn’t get a Good2Go quote. I tried a variety of locations and driving histories but had no luck. I proceeded to the Progressive site where it asked me to verify my information.

Good2Go step 27 of getting a quote

Good2Go step 28 of getting a quote

But this didn’t work as promised. I needed to re-enter information I had already provided, such as my annual mileage.

Good2Go step 29 of getting a quote

Overall, I was disappointed with this process and expect to receive a lot of spam.

What to Expect When Filing a Claim With Good2Go

You can file a claim with Good2Go by submitting a request, calling customer service, or through the company’s online portal. The company then assigns an adjuster to process your claim.

Most claims reviews are negative and speak about elusive adjusters, long waits, or both. After the adjuster tried to deny their claim, the customer below spent more than two months trying to contact someone.

Good2Go 1-star review

The customer below says their claims adjuster was unapologetically rude. The company responded to this review only to clarify why the claim wasn’t fully paid — no mention of the adjuster’s inappropriate behavior.

The two positive claims reviews I found showed a fast process, as in the review below from 2018.
