Sam’s Club members aren’t currently eligible for a car insurance discount through their membership. But members of BJ’s Wholesale Club or Costco can get discounted auto insurance through companies like American Family and Liberty Mutual. Several other membership programs offer discounted car insurance premiums as well.
Let’s look at what memberships offer insurance discounts and other ways to get extra savings.
Can You Get a Car Insurance Discount for Being a Sam’s Club Member?
No, Sam’s Club no longer offers its members a car insurance discount as a membership perk. But you can get discounts on things like:
Buying a new or used car, boat, or RV
Replacing your tires or battery
Renting vehicles
If you prefer shopping at Sam’s Club, the removal of this perk might be an inconvenience. But if you want a membership that includes discounts on auto insurance, you have other options to consider. Let’s take a closer look.
Other Memberships That Can Get You Car Insurance Discounts
Although you can’t get a car insurance discount for being a Sam’s Club member, you can save money on your insurance premiums through other memberships, including associations and other wholesale clubs.
Here are five memberships with special offers on auto insurance.
Costco
Costco has a partnership with CONNECT, powered by American Family Insurance. Switching to CONNECT can save you an average of $596 on your first year of car insurance, according to the company’s site. But this benefit isn’t available for California and Florida Costco members.
Costco Executive members also get roadside assistance, though limits and benefits may vary by state. You’re also eligible for lifetime renewability of your CONNECT auto policy as long as you meet eligibility requirements at renewal. Lifetime renewability isn’t available in Maryland or Michigan.
BJ’s Wholesale Club
BJ’s members can save 12% or more on auto insurance if they buy it online through Liberty Mutual. You can also get member pricing on car rentals and tires, with free rotations and flat-tire repair.
The discount may not apply to all auto insurance coverages you choose and can vary by state. The perk is also not available in the following states:
AAA
You can get cheaper car insurance rates if you’re a member of AAA, though how much you can save depends on the club you belong to. For example, AAA Mountain West Group members in Alaska, Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming can save 5% on AAA car insurance.
You can get a car insurance quote online, by speaking with an agent at a local AAA branch, or over the phone. AAA is most well-known for its roadside assistance plans, but you can also earn savings on fuel, auto parts, vehicle rentals, and airport parking.
AARP
You can save 10% on car insurance from The Hartford with an AARP membership. Switching to The Hartford saves an average of $577 per year, according to its website. You can call to get a quote or get one online in less than 10 minutes to see if switching to The Hartford will lower your cost of car insurance.
An AARP membership also comes with many other benefits, such as discounts on oil changes, car rentals, roadside assistance plans, and defensive driving courses, which can earn you an additional auto insurance discount.
Other Car Insurance Discounts
Membership perks come in handy when you need them most, but you don’t need to be a Sam’s Club member or pay membership fees to take advantage of these car insurance discounts:
Safe driver discount: Many insurers reward you for maintaining a clean driving record (no tickets and accidents). You can save as much as 40% with some companies.
Good student discount: If you have a full-time student in your household with good grades — a B average or above — you could save as much as 35% with some insurers.
Telematics discount: You can get an initial discount — typically 5% to 10% — for allowing your insurer to track your driving habits, then even more savings if you practice safe driving habits.
Automatic payment discount: Enroll in auto pay to allow your insurer to automatically charge your credit card or bank account every month. Doing so can help you prevent late fees and also save you about 5% off your premium.
Multi-policy discount: Bundle your car and home insurance with the same insurance company to save as much as 25% or more depending on your insurer.
If you’re still looking for ways to lower your car insurance premium, consider switching insurance companies. You can use a car insurance comparison site to compare multiple quotes quickly.
Sam’s Club Car Insurance Discount FAQs
Consider the answers to the most common questions about Sam’s Club auto insurance to determine if a membership is worth the cost.
What are the benefits of having a Sam’s Club membership?

Is buying a car through Sam’s Club worth it?
It depends. Sam’s Club’s partnership with TrueCar may help you save money when buying a new or used car. If you buy a vehicle through a TrueCar-certified dealer and report it to Sam’s Club no later than 45 days after purchase, you can receive an e-gift card for Sam’s Club worth $110.
